Go Zephyr!
It’s been a while, but tonight I’ve decided to write about a somewhat selfish anecdote, I played Ultimate Frisbee. And it was great.
After checking out the Vancouver Ultimate League website (www.vul.bc.ca) I emailed a bunch of team captains too see if anyone was looking. One of them recommended for me to try my luck and see if any teams needed subs. So I did just that; I headed down to Van Tech Elementary and did just that with no expectations. To my surprise I was taken in by a team, Zephyr.
Zephyr (perhaps in reference to “A light (westerly) wind.”), is an all-girl team that, just this one time, had so few players that they decided to break their strict no-guys policy, and took me in.
For a second I was not sure how to feel about that, but they turned out to be the greatest team of all. And as a guy, I wasn’t complaining to be on the team with all the good looking gals 🙂
We won 1 game and lost 1. But these girls were good. And as a bonus, they were very friendly too 🙂 In fact, every half-time teams have a cheer and for one of them they went with “Jose and the ladies!”… memorable.
It’s been a while since I played a field game but I liked this ultimate Frisbee thing – competitive but not intense and a whole lot of fun. I’m definitely going to keep going.
I’m dead though. I thought I was in shape going a few times a week to the gym – well this was a reality check.
One thing I was excited to experience one more time are sport bruises. Taking a shower I assessed the damage: 2 scrapped knees, 1 bruised thumb, 1 bruised middle finger, 1 bruised knuckle. By the way, when the water hit those bruised knees…. Oooowwwwwwchhhhh!!! I was laughing in pain thinking, “damn, did it hurt this much when I was 14?
Either way, it was great. And I wanted to let you know.
Soon I’ll be writing about the Olympics and my experiences.
Go Canada Go!
And thanks BOBXNC for the frisbee pic!
