Last week the Internet Marketing Conference Vancouver happened. I was able to attend a few sessions, the keynote by Guy Kawasaki, and a couple of after parties. Overall, I’m going to give IMC Vancouver an “good” rating this time around, here’s why:
A big part of my very technical rating: there was little promotion for it, thus it was smaller.
I thought it was just me, but any time the “what do you think about the conference” question came up people would compare this year’s IMC with last year’s and come up with a million excuses why this one felt so smaller.
Mind you, I appreciate IMC and IIMA for bringing yet another great conference, but I think the overall promotion was a bit lacking.
Working near by, I was able to go just the presenters I wanted and return to work.
The Presenters I Saw
How to Save 10 to 40% on your Google AdWords PPC Campaign by Ken Jurina
I heard Ken’s short version of the presentation during the SEM Meetup, I’ve written a post with a few of my thoughts.
A/B Testing Breakthroughs: Actionable, big-win lessons from MOZILLA.com & VEGAS.com by Eric Hansen
A/B testing page load speed improved Mozilla.com’s conversion by 10 million downloads per year – incredible what a couple of seconds will do.
Vegas.com tested a mobile version of their site and mobile outperformed – as Eric mentioned, “mobile is here, finally”..
Successful Conversion Optimization Tactics to lift Revenue by Chris Goward,
Chris presented on result that, even though conversion rate remained statistically identical, revenue per visitor increased 15% – that’s a worthy result.
The case study is not public, but it will be soon posted on WiderFunnel’s Case Study section.
LDA (latent dirichlet attribution) by Gillian Muessig
The most technical of all presentations. You should’ve seen the formula she had in one of the slides – the kind of thing you’d need to build a space rocket. Ah, LDA, I’m still not convinced this the revelation of the year, but interesting nonetheless. You can read about LDA on SEOmoz post.
What Next?
Last week I became the Director of Events for the International Internet Marketing Association (IIMA). That means that next year I’ll be heavily involved with IMC Vancouver.
If there are any thoughts you’d wish to share, please let me know.
I’ll be posting pictures soon…
